About the Space Needle
A Seattle Icon
The Seattle Space Needle was constructed for the 1962 World’s Fair. Located in the Queen Anne area of Seattle, it’s close to other attractions and the Monorail stops just steps away.

History & Construction
How It Was Built
With a design conceptualized by Edward E. Carlson and John Graham, Jr., and refined by Victor Steinbrueck, the Space Needle was constructed to withstand winds up to 200 mph and survive a magnitude 9 earthquake. Construction began one year before the World’s Fair and crews worked around the clock until its completion on December 8, 1961.

Observation Deck & SkyCity
